- My focus in my cooking is to contribute to the restorations of Wabanaki traditions as well as creating new dishes with traditional food. Throughout the blog as it continues to develop,you will see a variety of foods. Foods that already exist on our tables and foods that will be most suitable to the Wabanaki families. Restoring traditional food is a spiritual journey. It is also coming to realize that much of the food we consume today was not food cooked in the method of our ancestors. The make-up of our traditional diet was vastly different. Less in our diet today are fish, berries and herbs indigenous to the land. So this is a journey of rediscovering our foods and for me personally it is at the stage of infancy. This journey is happening at many levels. One just has to take a look at our communities and see the issues that the Wabanaki grapple daily. It is a desire of wanting to take control of our lives from our world view. It is about seeking a peaceful way and of providing a sense of well-being and wellness for ourselves and for our families.
